Hello! My name is Briana Skerpan, and I'm an illustrator with a passion for stories about people, places, and creatures that are more than meets the eye. I enjoy working in a range of styles, from digital painting to ink-on-paper line drawings, but cartooning (especially cartooning in black and white ink) holds the place of honor in my heart. I love the meditative process of drawing with a physical brush and ink, and few sights are as satisfying to me as a complete, physical page of comics.
I’ve been a devoted comics reader since I learned how to read, but my childhood comics canon was mostly oblivious to Marvel and DC. George O’Connor’s Olympians, Raina Telegeimer’s Smile, Kazu Kibuishi’s Amulet, Gary Larson’s The Far Side, Shannon, Dale, and Nathan Hale’s Rapunzel’s Revenge, and above all, Jeff Smith’s Bone were my first cornerstones of what the world of comics had to offer. To me, the goofy, the strange, and finding the surprising in the mundane are key ingredients for a good story, whether it’s one I’m seeing or trying to tell. Besides comics, I enjoy folklore and mythology, language learning, cool practical effects, and unabashed sincerity.
