Kelly Nguyen

Hello! I'm Kelly and I'm a senior at GVSU. I love painting and I'm interested in the field of surface design–particularly lettering, patterns, and posters. Some media that I enjoy playing around with are oil paint, watercolor, ink and digital art. When it comes to oil painting, I tend to delve into more personalized conceptual work that I don’t intend to gear towards a mass audience, but it may speak strongly to others as it does to me. I appreciate oil painting and watercolors because I can find my flow easily with the physicality of the paints, and I welcome the challenge of using inks and its permanence of mark. Digital art is also fun because of the plethora of tools I can use and it also requires me to develop a sense of intuition that is different from that of traditional media. 

Aside from drawing and painting, in my free time I like meditating, sewing, reading, and watching Hong Kong Cinema from the 80s and 90s. Over this past summer I started delving into Chinese philosophy as well, particularly Taoism.
