I am a traditional artist with a strong preference for markers, to the point my peers associate my art with them, but when given the opportunity to create a 3D object I will and I will have fun doing so. For my illustrations that are 2D I enjoy making comics and as a personal challenge I am making a graphic novel. For my graphic novel I start with a pencil sketch, refine it on a separate paper, ink in the outlines on the separate paper, then do base colors while checking my color guide, then add shadows or other lighting, and then I cut the paper to size before pasting it into my dedicated sketchbook for the graphic novel story. I have the story outline planned out and a set color guide to keep the artwork consistent. Sometimes to scratch a creative itch I will make comics using 3D objects like dolls, stuffed toys, or my most recent experimentation; perler beads.
I am a self proclaimed nerd. I have an almost unnecessary amount of knowledge about Scooby-Doo since I grew up watching the original show and other Hanna-Barbera shows. My peers see a strong correlation between my color preferences and Hanna-Barbera cartoons. I enjoy other fandoms like Star Trek, Sherlock (both the books and BBC show), and Supernatural. The amount of times I have been called an “old soul” because of my interest in shows from the mid-twentieth century is astounding. Currently I am on a reading kick. I am finishing up the Captive Prince trilogy and have been reading quite a few queer graphic novels. If you have any recommended graphic novels I would love to hear them!
