My name is Ashley! I am an illustrator and designer with a passion for creating uplifting and nature-inspired work. My art education at GVSU, as well as my passion for art that has existed ever since I could hold a pencil, has helped me turn my crayon-filled childhood hobby into something more. I had (and still) have an adoration towards imaginary creatures, fantasy elements, and just animals in general, but will also illustrate everything under the sun. Once I got my first digital drawing tool, it opened a whole new world for me. Now, even while occasionally picking up a mechanical pencil or nice ink pen, I will create pieces using Photoshop and a Microsoft Surface Pro. I have taken a liking to character design, environment illustrations, children’s books, surface patterns, and a heavy focus on color and lighting. Most of my art has color and texture and I tend to never go without it. In general, I believe my art to be positive and inviting with childlike whimsy. Both narrative and design is my jam depending on the project itself! Whatever type of art I create, it is always rewarding to see the final product, especially when it is created for someone else.
One of my largest artistic inspirations has always been animated media, especially 2D, and I believe you are never too old for it. Despite that and my love for cutesy art and children's book spreads, I could never pass up a good horror movie. Other hobbies I enjoy are photography, casual board games/console games, a bit of writing, and walking my goldendoodle. You can also find me scarfing down something with peanut butter and chocolate and enjoying the fall season too much.
