I'm planning on doing several zines, but my overarching theme for all of them are short advertisements, spin-offs of vintage tv commercials and informational posters. All of the "products" that I'm featuring are very fake and some of them originated from a lot of conversations with my younger sister who, in my opinion is very cool.
As far as I know, all of these zines will be using the classic 8.5x11 folding technique. This may change later, but I haven't had a moment to try the other techniques to find out if I like them better. ^^
Crybaby Eye Drops~
I wanted this zine to advertise the new go-to tool, perfect for every manipulative person, inspired by cable as-seen-on-tv commercials.
Box O' Secrets~
This cereal is FULL of surprises, I want the government files to be equivelent to the classic "rare golden" toy.
Lard Rock~
This zine is heavily inspired by vintage national park posters, guides and handouts. I want this zine to be a little more wordy, so I might end up printing this one on 11x17 rather than the 8.5x11.
1 Meal A Year~
I might be redesigning this one, I think its lacking the spice, but I like the concept.
I've gone off the deep end and and started creating an absolute library of these. If I value my sanity, I'll hopefully be ditching a lot of these concepts.✨
SO. I only kind of valued my sanity. I've finished two, aiming for a third.
:D
This is the finished Crybaby Eyedrops zine! Since it was my first one I've done digitally, (I normally do these for fun, just one and with pen and pencil) it took a bit more effort than I expected, and came out a little differently, but I'm happy with it! ^^ Below are all of the iterations - there are MANY. Oh and pardon the images above, seems it was chopped off lol
This is the poster on the inside -------------------------------->
I haven't gotten this one printed yet, so here are the digital files! I had a LOT of fun with this one and I'm quite pleased. This is my second zine I've made digitally and I think this one is far more readable and easy to understand. All in all, I'd call this one a fantastic success! :D
And this time there were only four printing iterations. Man, was I pleased when everything lined up first shot. Guess thats the cool thing about learning isn't it? XD
SO. I MADE I THIRD. I AM TIRED NOW. :D But I think these are getting better. I went for a more simplistic color palette again, and I think I figured out what better readablility looks like in a zine in relation to the size of the illustration, line weight and detail.
Learning is cool.
I only used spreads for this zine as a little experiment. The cover is above left, and the back is below left :)
