DRAWN ESCAPE
By Robert Truong
An artist gets sucked into a paper drawing, lands into a fantasy world, and tries to escape using his creativity combined with a magical pen.
A solo animator named Bobby has been creating a film series for 20 years by himself, while starting on the 11 animation film of the series he struggles to come up with ideas and isn’t progressing on the project. Frustrated by his lack of ideas and creativity to create something unique he decides to close up his studio.
While closing up his studio he notices a piece of paper has flown through the window of the studio building. In the process of inspecting this random piece of paper Bobby gets sucked into the paper thus beginning his adventure.
After Bobby is sucked into the paper he lands on the ground in the middle of a mysterious forest with no idea what just happened he gets up and starts his adventure in this unknown world.
This story draws inspiration from recent animations from the isekai genre. Imagine the anime “GATE” but instead of a fantasy world coming to Japan, it's an artist arriving in a fantasy world and trying to find a way out of the fantasy world that he has been placed in.
Themes include: Fantasy, Creativity, Inspiration, Adventure, and Change
Goals: Give creative inspiration to the Bobby, Change Bobby’s perspective on his art, and find a solution to a way out of the fantasy world
Bobby
Main character
Hard working animator that is uninspired and in search of creative inspiration. He may seem too dedicated to his work to care about others, but in reality he has a soft spot for people and wants to bring joy to the world. He loves his coffee a bit too much where it seems like he lives off it. Very introverted and will find out ways to get out of physical activities.
Bobby’s Animation Studio
In the modern world
The studio where Bobby works on his animations. The only person that goes in and out of this building is Bobby. It's a small building with only two floors.
Episode 1/Pilot
Establish the small animation studio building. Bobby is working in his studio but is stuck and can’t progress due to lack of inspiration for his next animation in his series because of this he decides to clean up his studio and close it for the day. While packing up his things and closing his studio a piece of paper flies through the window. When he tries to inspect the piece of paper on the floor of his studio, he gets sucked into the paper and into a fantasy world.
Episode 2
This episode establishes the fantasy world setting, other characters, and monsters. The episode starts with Bobby falling through the sky and then through the trees to eventually landing on the ground. When getting up he sees something familiar and realizes that his pen made it into this world as well. Picking up his pen he starts his adventure into this new unknown world.
Episode 3
This episode introduces new characters and Bobby’s magical pen. Bobby runs into some conflict. This conflict has to do with a monster attacking guards and a carriage. Somehow Bobby figures out that his pen has magical properties and can create tangible things that he draws with it. He saves the people from the monster and the new characters get introduced.
I am the person to envision this show because Bobby’s struggle with creativity and inspiration draw from my personal art block. Also the characters from the story are inspired from people I have met throughout my life.
