Title: Self-Access Learning Centers: Making Them Work for You and Your Students
Speaker: Andy Hockersmith
As motivated students seek opportunities for meaningful language practice, self-access learning centers offer lots of solutions. From libraries and book clubs, to discussion groups and workshops and beyond, self-access learning centers offer flexibility, authenticity, and utility for university students. In this workshop, Hockersmith shared considerations, advice, and success stories from a variety of self-access learning centers at Japanese universities. Participants gained helpful guidance on how to institute and benefit from a self-access learning center at their university.
Andy Hockersmith has taught EFL/ESL for almost 20 years in the United States, Turkmenistan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan. He currently works for the Center for Global Education and Exchange at Toyo University where he helps oversee the operations of Toyo’s English Community Zone (ECZ).
