Gravity Gold

Gravity is used to find Gold.

Gold is heavier than rocks. Gold will fall to the bottom of a sluice box because of GRAVITY. Prospecting for gold has taken place since Ancient Rome ( 753 BC–476 AD ) and the weight of Gold has played a part in finding gold. Stratification allows dense material like gold to sink to the bottom and lighter rock gravel can be brushed away.

Traditional sluicebox designs have dirt and rocks lifted to the top or back of the box with an excavator or hand shovel. This uses energy to lift rocks and use water pumped to the back to push rocks and earth over a metal grill and carpet to collect gold slivers.

WET vs DRY

Wet gold prospecting uses river, streams or creeks to flush water past a pile of dirt with gold in it. You can still find gold in arid deserts with no water available. Early prospectors used the same gravity to locate gold that is heavier than dry dirt. "DRY WASHING" uses air blown past falling dirt and gold goes to the bottom and lighter dirt, dust and rocks are brushed aside.

Using a Gold Pan

Panning extracts gold from a gold pan filled with gravel swirled around until the gold falls to the bottom and lighter gravel is at the top. The process is one of the simplest ways to extract gold, and is popular with geology enthusiasts especially because of its low cost and relative simplicity.

One Troy oz of Gold

The price of gold is approx $1800 per Troy ounce ( https://goldprice.org/ ) One troy ounce of gold is physically about the size of a military dog tag and weighs about the same as a slice of bread.

A Sluice uses Gravity

A sluice that uses electricity to run a pump to flush water over the earth, allows the water to push the gravel down a slope and tumble the rocks away and leaving the gold and sand to fall through cracks into a gold catching riffle matt to trap the gold.

Move More Earth

When gold is discovered in a productive vein, the prospector uses large excavators to load the enlarged sluice with more earth and water. The highbanker sluice is a larger version of the small sluice.

Vortex Sluice

Science is being used to create the Vortex Sluice from Goldwell. This computer designed vortex brings gold contained water to fall into the vortex, swirl the water away and leave the heavier gold in the indent for extraction. This has proven more popular than mesh trapping matt.

Consider Your Backyard

Many sluices are designed for backpackers, light-weight for travel and portable. Have you considered setting up a sluice in your own backyard, using your own electrical power, your own water and operating any TIME you choose. Import your dirt from a creek and avoid permits and licensing.
