Mix up a kettle full of psychologists and a dab of peanut oil, with a spicy murder and you have the recipe for mischief. You also have the Eighth Annual Lake Placid High School Performing Arts Club Murder Mystery. This year's production is set for a September 21, 2001 performance and will begin at 7 p.m.
The play is aptly titled: "The Loon Called Once," because after this performance the audience will be ready for a trip to the loony bin.
The scene is set when a psychology convention is organized in Convention Town USA Ă‘ Lake Placid, NY. Just as the final touches are being put on the convention, the production begins. Solving the murder is on the back burner for most of the characters. Only two things stand in the way of a successful convention. The two things that always stand in the way: construction and murder.
Too many chefs may spoil the brought, but too many psychologists mix the nuts.
In the first act the audience find that the victim was the sane one and everyone else was crazy enough to do him in. The audience becomes the detectives traveling around Mirror Lake to interview the collection of kooks. The amateur sleuths will soon finds there is a fine line between 'head psychologist' and 'head case.'
After interviewing the characters, it is back to the high school for dessert and the final act. Among the suspects are the radio psychologist, the writer/professor, the animal therapist and several others.
The proceeds from the production go to the Drama Club's bi-annual trip to New York City. "The Loon Called Once" is directed by Peggy Plank and was written by local playwright Gem*Boy.
Ticket prices for the Dessert Theatre are $6 per adult and student price is $4 each. The fun begins at 7 p.m. in the Lake Placid High School Cafeteria on September 21, 2001. For more information contact Peggy Plank, (518) 523-2474 ext. 132.
