In the world of education, no child is left behind, but in the world of high stakes testing, one proctor is in a ditch. Dead from a severed brake line, Gary 'Da Fish' Fisher was found right before he was to proctor the important MacGuffin Test.
It is up to the audience to fill in the blanks in "A Clozed Case: the final exam," the 12th annual murder mystery comedy to be produced by the Lake Placid High School. The play will be staged on Friday, September 30, 2005, at 7:30 p.m.
Da Fish was found dead the morning of the big exam. The students are a stellar class of misfits -- from a Mississippi 'exchange student' to 'miss priss', whose father is punishing her by making her attend public school, and of course there is always a precocious homeschooler butting in. Each has a reason for not taking the test, or more to the point, wanting Da Fish dead. Kelly Miller will direct the Lake Placid High School Production.
Students were nervous about the MacGuffin Test; some thought it was multiple choice; some hoped it would be true or false; others believed it to be smoke and mirrors, but everyone wanted out of it. It was a secret exam devised as a litmus test to give students a way to test out of Da Fish's potion of quotients class --- and pressure was immense.
"A Clozed Case" gives the audience a chance to solve a mystery while enjoying a night of dessert theatre, as well as helping raise money for the Katrina Relief Fund. To solve this mystery, audience members will turn detective. In the first act, audience members glean information about the murder of Gary Fisher, and then they travel around Mirror Lake -- by bus -- interviewing characters at various clue sites. The audience has approximately an hour to gather more 'evidence' and then write down the name of the character that committed the murder. After the character interview, a delicious dessert will be served, giving the audience time to submit their answers of whodunit. Shortly afterwards the final act is presented, revealing the murderer.
Prizes will be awarded to the correct responses.
It takes a village to educate a child, and with "A Clozed Case: the final exam" it takes an audience to solve the murder. The murder mysteries have turned into an annual community event with local businesses and town offices opening their doors to be clue sites or donating prizes. The play was written by Gem*Boy.
Ticket donations for the Dessert Theatre are $7 per adult, and the student price is $5 each. The fun begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Lake Placid High School Auditorium - Friday, September 30, 2005. For more information contact Kelly Miller at (518) 523-2474.
