Lyon the third-largest city and second-largest urban area of France. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône, about 470 km (292 mi) southeast of Paris, 320 km (199 mi) north of Marseille and 56 km (35 mi) northeast of Saint-Étienne.
In the mid 19th century that the first western Catholic missionaries began to enter Korea. This was done by stealth, either via the China–North Korea border or the Yellow Sea. These French missionaries of the Paris Foreign Missions Society arrived in Korea in the 1840s to evangelize Korean people. Bishop Siméon-François Berneux, appointed in 1856 as head of the infant Korean Catholic church, estimated in 1859 that the number of Korean faithful had reached nearly 17,000.
In 1866 Berneux was arrested and put on trial. In February 1866 he was repeatedly interrogated under torture, and sentenced to death. He was executed by decapitation on March 8, 1866 at Saenamteo outside Seoul. The history of French mission to Korea is a story of God's Kingdom. Sending out teams to France is repaying the debt that was owed by our ancestors. We have a small team that runs food business in Lyon. They want to be a blessing to the local community through sharing Korean food and make friends with the people from any ethnic backgrounds.
