Anchorage

Our flight to Anchorage was uneventful. Strong tailwinds brought us in 40 minutes early. Within an hour of leaving the airport we were at the Glacier Brewhouse.

We took a trolley tour of the city. It is a great way to see the sites and learn about the city. A few fun facts:

• Anchorage has the second greatest tide differential in the world. 39 feet between high and low tide. This is why few cruise ships stop at Anchorage.
• Anchorage experiences over 300 earthquakes a day. Yes, that was a day! That means we have been in an earthquake.
• Alaska is the second largest consumer of Spam. Hawaii is number one.
• The mud flats off the coast is 900 feet of glacial silt. We were warned to stay off it as it acts as quicksand.
• Sunrise is at 4:25 am and sunset 11:32 pm. It makes for a full day. I am quite sure we will never see sunset. We are still trying to adjust to the 3 hour time difference.
