Metabolimetry

The Seahorse technology uses two fluorophores embedded in a patented cartridge that allows the detection of extracellular oxygen and pH levels surrounding cells through a unique sensor detection system.

This technology allows for the determination of mitcochondrial respiration and gycolysis through the measurement of the Extracellular Acidification Rate (ECAR) and the Oxygen Consumption Rate (OCR) on cells placed under defined stressed conditions.

The Seahorse XFe96 is a plate based fluorescent sampling system set to look at cells in 96 well plates allowing for maximal sampling of test criteria in one assay. The facility offers training for this system and following training this system can be booked using the QReserve online calendar system.

Data analysis is performed using the Wave v2.4 Software (Agilent) and is installed on all of our offline analysis PCs. This software is ideal to help automate and streamline data into readily publishable outputs.

Agilent provide a range of kits that allow:

Facility Seahorse Reagent Store

Agilent Seahorse kits, plates and reagents can be bought directly from the facility on an assay by assay or kit by kit basis reducing the time it takes to get your assays on the system.
