Live Cell Imaging Systems


The BioStation IM Microscope (Nikon Instruments) widefield fluorescence live cell imaging microscope is a workhorse within the facility allowing for high quality phase, and fluorescence assessments of cell lines over long time courses requiring a controlled atmosphere and high optical magnifications. Often this is used to more cheaply optimise research approaches and experimental time frames prior to moving these projects onto more expensive and complex technologies such as confocal microscopy looking at a more focused time course.

  • Equipped with a Nikon DS-Qi1MC (monochrome, 1280 x 1024) camera for fluorescence Imaging

  • Internal incubator with humidified atomosphere options and CO2 mixer and gas perfusion

  • Inverted microscope platform

  • Time lapse (live-cell)

  • 2 channel fluorescence light collection alongside Phase

  • Flourscence filterset options, DAPI, FITTC, wtGFP, HcRed, TRITC and Cy5

  • 40x 0.8 NA Plan Fluor objective effective magnifications 20x, 40x & 80x

  • Automated stage movement x,y & z with offset options for multipoint collections

  • Accepts glass/optical grade plastic bottom 35mm dish

  • Intensilight epi-fluorescence illuminator light source for fluorescence illumination

Often this is used to more cheaply optimise research approaches prior to moving these projects onto more expensive and complex technologies such as confocal microscopy
