A lot of us work long hours in the early stages of our careers!
Could be attributed to various reasons:
- Initial learning curve eating into productivity
- Toxic work culture
- Workplace demands
- Other random reasons which we can't control
In this circus, we deprioritize something called "Health"!
A few things that can help us work hard and also be positive.
A) Workout - This comes from personal experience. I used to work for long hours but still spend an hour in the gym every day. I felt it was necessary to keep myself sane. If you have time to sleep, eat, drink, etc. - You will have time to exercise.
B) Eating habits - Your eating habits determine your health in the long run. If you work while you eat - consider you are doing yourself more harm than good! I haven't seen many people in this world who can actually enjoy their meal. Give it a shot!
C) Connecting with family & friends - One of my managers used to take an hour break every afternoon to talk to his one-year-old daughter. I used to take walks in the afternoon, evenings & talk to friends. It could be a nonsense conversation. But, it helped me connect with things outside of work.

Growing in your career by not caring about your mental health (or Health) is outright meaningless!
