Ever since my first SCUBA dive, I have been interested in the marine environment. Being underwater with life teeming all around me was a novel yet fascinating experience. In my third year of undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to work on a mini research project studying coral responses to aerial exposure. The experience piqued my interest in and widened my knowledge on coral biology and coral reefs. I also got to learn about the marine environment in temperate waters during my student exchange at the University of Gothenburg, which is vastly different from the marine environment in the tropics. These exciting experiences have pushed me to take on a marine-related final year project, where I look at how coral microhabitats influence coral photo-physiological performance and the associated microbial communities.
