Growing up in a small island country like Singapore gave me ample opportunities since a tender age to interact with the ocean. As a child, every visit to any of Singapore’s shores made me more curious about the tiny to big processes that occur there. Pursuing my interest, I began to find more ways to learn more about the marine realm. I have studied the spatial distributions of reef fish in Singapore using Baited Remote Underwater Video stations (BRUVs) as part of my undergraduate research project. For my Final Year Project at EMEL, I would be looking at microplastics and their ecological relationships in intertidal zones, particularly in seagrass beds.
