I am a PhD student under the EDB- Industrial Postgraduate Programme (EDB-IPP). This means that I both work for a living while doing my research at my work place. I work for International Paint, AkzoNobel, which specializes in protective coatings designed for fouling control on marine vessels. After setting up a research lab in Tuas and developing test methods to screen the efficacy of fouling control coatings over three years, I started my postgraduate studies under the EDP-IPP on novel fouling control methods complementing conventional fouling release coatings. Specifically, my study focuses on acoustic methods and understanding how ultrasound, used in conjunction with commercially available foul release coatings, could effectively remove or prevent the settlement of marine biofilm.
