A number of our students have progressed through the Mistatim (horse therapy) program . They go on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Once students have completed this program, they are able to participate in the horse club on Wednesdays at early dismissal! Students need to practice the 7 Habits if they want to be part of these special groups. Through LIM, students took charge of their learning and actions.
One of our pillars at EES is Nehiyawiwin. We've are working everyday at combining the 7 Habits and our Cree culture. Once a week on Fridays, staff and students head outdoors with the Cree instructors to integrate what they know about the habits with new traditional Cree knowledge. Instructors use a lot of integrated teaching of the habits, and the language of the LIM and Nehiyawin is always present. The Nehiyawin values are infused in LIM. The principles are universal and align with the Cree cultural teachings.
The goal of the U-school program is to create an immersive and experiential week of learning for the students and to introduce them to life on campus. Our young Nehiyaw Leaders spent a week on campus engaging with professors, alumni, staff, and students on topics that generate excitement and thoughts about some of their future goals. These opportunities get the students thinking that the different possibilities and that they can achieve their dreams by beginning with the end , setting goals, and putting first things first.
Students who demonstrated Art Leadership skills were specially chosen to work with George Littlechild. Students came up with an idea to create a painting based on Elders and leaders in the community. It unleashed their creativity and potential and gave them an opportunity to gain confidence in their abilities.
