Content Objective:
The lesson’s content objective is to create a literary analysis discussion through student led literature circles. Students will discuss and make connections between character analysis and overall themes using textual evidence to support their understanding. Students will also form a deeper and personal understanding of the text by connecting ideas in the book to personal experiences.
Pedagogy:
I chose literature circles to facilitate a literary analysis because this activity allows for cooperative learning and student choice. In addition, literature circles follow the constructivist learning theory because students use their past experiences to make connections and create a deeper understanding of the text. Literature circles also create authentic learning experiences for reluctant or struggling readers. Students will record their literature circles using Audioboo and then share the audio through iTunes so they can share with classmates and receive feedback. Students can also listen to other discussions to compare and contrast their ideas to others.
Technology:
Audioboo is an appropriate technology for the lesson because it affords collaboration, creativity, sharing, and opportunists to practice verbal communication skills. Audioboo lends itself well to both individual and group work. Individually, students can practice fluency skills, conduct short interviews, create podcasts over a number of topics and tell stories. Students can work in groups to conduct similar activities as well as more interactive activities like group discussions.
This example of technology integration using the TPACK framework came about from using creativity tools to help students reach the highest levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. In this lesson, I chose a lesson I had previously taught and integrated a creativity tool to provide students with an authentic learning experience they could share with the world outside the classroom, including friends and family.
