In the last unit, you started learning about the 4Cs - but we mainly focused on communication and collaboration. Now you'll complete a separate reading about the importance of creativity in K12 classrooms: Creativity in Learning (Rep.) (2019). Washington, D.C.: Gallup - the link can be found below.
Before you start writing, you'll select one mind mapping tool you prefer, so you can demonstrate how you organized your thoughts while you read the chapters. This week, you'll create a mind map of your reading. You'll need one of the digital tools listed in the Mind Mapping section of your textbook (p. 196). You may also Google "mind map tool" or "mind map maker"
Jinny's recommendations: Mindmeister, Miro, Simplemind, Venngage, Mural, Sketchboard
You will read the report while taking notes using mind map tools. Click this link. Download the file by clicking on the green button labeled "Download the Report" or "Download PDF." This PDF may look lengthy at first, but trust me - most parts are images and large graphics, so it's more like 10 pages and it's a fast read!
While reading, create a mind map using mind mapping tools. Your mind map should be comprehensive enough to show your understanding of your reading. You'll need this mind map for Task 5. Make Connections.
Your mindmap should include these parts:
Main topics
Key findings for each section
How the topics/findings connect
The role of technology in supporting creativity
Your own opinions about parts of the article
← This is an example mind map from a previous student. While this student used a notetaking app on her iPad, I strongly recommend using a mind mapping tool for this task to expand your skills for using mind mapping tools.
Please include a link to your mindmap, take a screenshot, attach it, or whatever makes the most sense. Just make sure all parts are readable - don’t take a picture of your computer screen with your phone, as this will significantly reduce the quality of the picture.
Please consider the readability when creating it. Avoid using a font size that's too small to read.
If you don’t know how to make a screenshot on your computer, this is a great semester to learn: Screenshot instructions for Windows/ Screenshot instructions for a Mac.
IMPORTANT! Please double check your website with the incognito browser to check if the mind map is displayed properly to the public.
Windows, Linux, or Chrome OS: Press Ctrl + Shift + n.
Mac: Press ⌘ + Shift + n.
