The development of Dracovix ARPG's growing list of markings is closely tied with the breeding aspect of the game! Whenever you bring a new dracovix into the game through breeding, capturing a fledgling, or rescuing a stray, there is a very small chance that a new, never before seen gene will appear.
New genes can be of any rarity! But that means that any dracovix imported into the game could be carrying an invisible het of an uncommon or ultra-rare marking, and you wouldn't know until the dracovix is genetically tested or completes its Proofs of Self. Additionally, you won't get to see what the marking looks like until you breed to make it homozygous. After a new designable gene has been revealed, the gene page will be unveiled with visual examples and range guidelines.
Revealing new recessive genes is a special breeding challenge that the whole Dracovix ARPG community can work together on, and can be achieved in a number of ways:
The simplest method is to hope the gene mutates in a second, unrelated dracovix, hopefully of the opposite sex sooner or later.
The longest method is to breed the gene through a long line of offspring until you have two dracovix with the gene who are just distantly related enough that they won't technically create inbred offspring.
The quickest method is to inbreed two dracovix after passing the gene at least once to an offspring. Inbred offspring however are highly likely to be infertile, unable to continue passing on their new gene, but it is still one way to see a gene visually.
