Despite being considered dragons or dragon-like in some way, dracovixen boast few defenses and limited offensive abilities in fights. They are not innately born with breath weapons, and their long limbs, wings, and neck offer several weak points. Their front claws are very sharp and talon-like and are their deadliest forms of unarmed offense, though they are designed for gripping, ripping, and carrying prey rather than striking or slicing.
Their bite strength is phenomenal, and they have a locking mechanism in their jaw to hold a bite while conserving energy at will, but their needle-like teeth are fragile and not meant for brute-force based combat.
Many dracovix can make do with their claws and agility as their only form of self defense, but some have decided to overcome their weaknesses, utilizing their fantastic bite strength, jaw locking, and neck muscles, to wield weapons in their mouth. This style of fighting gives them distance between their vulnerable parts and their enemies by covering the distance with their neck and their weapon’s length.
Weapons designed for dracovixs are either designed to be held in their front paws two-handedly or have a very tough handle they can hold tight in their mouth with their jaws locked down.
Some dracovix order their mouth wielded weapons with artificial flavoring on the handle.
When fighting another dracovix, there are some similarities and differences between fights on the ground, and fights in the midst of flight.
On the ground, dracovix will grapple each other by the shoulders with their front claws and play a kind of thumb of war game with their faces. They attack and defend from their opponent's maw as if fencing, because either party has just enough offense and limited enough defense that it is almost too risky for one to go all in on the attack unless the absolute most perfect opportunity arises for one to grab hold of the other's neck just below their head, scoring a decisive victory. They can't do much more than wait for this opportunity, and they can't kick each other because then they would fall over. They flap their wings while keeping them safely out of range of the other's teeth and claws, gaping their jaws at each other and growling to try to intimidate the other. They don't necessarily try to overcome the other with brute force right away, because pushing their opponent to the ground allows them to retaliate with their feet freely and can put the aggressor in a vulnerable position very suddenly.
This style of fighting, which is mostly an over-dramatized contest of charisma and endurance, can go on for lengthy periods of time until someone gets bored or the more aggressive dracovix is satisfied about getting their point across. On all fours, a dracovix's front side is more defensible than its back side due to the versatility of its front paws, talons, neck, and jaws.
If one dracovix is much more submissive than the other, it may preemptively fall to the ground and put its sharp talons and powerful kicking hind legs in between it and its attacker, which may also result in yet another stalemate as the attacker can't do much to get past the defender's weapons without critically endangering themselves.
Only in high stakes, life or death battles will a dracovix be willing to take more risks to their own safety in order to see their opponent truly defeated, or worse.
When fighting in the air, dracovix do everything in their power to avoid being caught from behind in a chase, as that would be just about game over. The dangers of fighting in the air increase a hundredfold.
After evading each other's maneuvers for an extended amount of time, the dracovix may either tire of chasing one another in desperate circles, or position themselves to face each other head on, in which they will lock their talons on each other's arms and shoulders, and like they would fight on the ground, begin arm wrestling as they snap at each other with their faces and try in vain to stabilize their momentum in the air.
This style of fighting lasts until one or both realize they are about to hit the ground, and they let go and dart away from each other as fast as they can to avoid the other getting an opportunity attack in. If they have the energy and motivation to spare to keep up the fight, they'll chase each other back up into the sky and do it all over again.
