Dress code
In order for the children to be free to move and play freely, all outfits must be comfortable, modest, and practical. Outfits should not be disruptive or interfere with students' daily study and playtime. Students younger than 7 years old are required to pack a change of clothes.
While our school maintains a fairly flexible dress code, parents are reminded that students should wear clothing that covers their backs, midriffs, and thighs at all times including when they are playing and moving.
Expensive and dangling jewelry is also not allowed at school. Leggings are required under dresses.
Students are not allowed to put on make-up or nail polish.
Hats may be worn on the playground to avoid sunburns but they are strictly forbidden in the classroom.
pERSONAL ITEMS
All student belongings must be visibly labeled with your child's name. This will reduce the number of lost items, (bottles, sneakers, crocs, bedding, etc..).
snack GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS
Discovery aims to raise future world leaders, sound of mind and body. In that spirit, we are genuinely concerned with our students' health, starting with the food they consume. Here are some of our rules regarding food and snacks:
Snacks should be nutrient-dense, avoid excessively salty or sugary (Chips, chocolate, candy, crackers, etc...)
A serving of fruit or vegetable is mandatory, children are encouraged to eat their fruit first everyday
All snacks should contain a portion of fruit or vegetable, a healthy protein, healthy starch or carbohydrate, and a healthy dairy product.
For dairy products, kindly inform your child's teacher of any existing allergies.
As you pack your child's snack, kindly keep in mind that snack time lasts 15-20 minutes, be sure to pack a snack that your child can complete in the mentioned period. Large snacks and multiple options may go to waste if the portions are not appropiate for your child.
Foods that are not allowed include but are not limited to: sweets, confectionery (candy, chocolate, etc...), fizzy drinks, chocolate-coated biscuits, cake, any kind of NUTS, and sausages.
Discovery is a nut-free school. Nuts are a choking hazard and some of our students are allergic to nuts.
The school recognizes that some children have medical conditions that require special diets, and we encourage parents to be mindful of their children's classmates' medical conditions when it comes to packing snacks.
sickness policy
Parents are reminded that students should stay at home if:
They have a contagious disease.
They are feeling too weak to go to school.
They have a cough that disrupts normal school activities.
They have yellow or green discharge from their nose or eyes.
Their skin breaks out in a rash.
They are vomiting or have a rash.
They have lice or ringworm.
They have fever
They have to be medicated frequently
