OUR continent & culture: in the 4's

In this update we wanted to spotlight some of the engaging learning that happens in our early years section!

In both the English and French 4's classes they have been learning all about Africa. It's countries, cultures, foods and heritage! They ended their learning with a shared picnic in the playground with the children (and teachers!) in their finest traditional clothes.

l'afrique!!!

Each child with African lineage shared which part of Africa they come from and a little bit about their culture, their traditional clothes, their dance and food. The class now understands that Africa is a continent not a country, and that countries live on continents. We extended the learning with African songs including "bayi bayi ngona" and "kyekye kule"

We learnt how to greet each other in our class dialects including: "Mhoro" (chiShona a Zimbabwean dialect), "Amakuru" ( kinyarwanda/kirundi), "Jambo" (swahili)  and "Wo ho te sen" (Asante Twi, a Ghanaian dialect). We even played a Rwandan traditional game "ku mazi ku nkombe". This is where children stand in a circle and pretend the centre is a pond. You jump in when you hear "ku mazi" (into the water) and jump out when you hear " ku nkombe" (out of the water).

colourful teachers!

Even our Teachers participated, with a variety of continent-wide, traditional outfits and beautiful Kitenge!
