Term 2
2021/22
Welcome to Term 2 (2021/22)!
Our second term (2021 - 2022) is here!
A very Happy New Year to all members of the Discovery Community!
We are recharged and ready to take learning to the next level in partnership with you.
As Covid19 presents new developments, we can all rest assured that our collective experiences in 2020 and 2021 have prepared us for this season.
Covid19 Update: During these holidays, many members of our community have traveled and some have been exposed to or contracted covid19. To manage this past season of extended travel and gathering, we will start school online and at-home on the 10th of January and then test all students on 15th January 2022. We will continue school face-to-face at Discovery on 17th January 2021.
Discovery Online/At Home for One Week
One week online: In light of a rise in Covid19 cases, we will have one week of online and distance learning for all students
10th January 2022: Online set up for students and platform testing
11th - 14th January 2022: Distance learning for all students
Some classes will get home-learning packs, wait for guidelines from the class teacher. The packs will be ready for pick up on Saturday, 8th January 2022 from 10:00 am
15th January 2022: Covid19 testing of students and families at the Discovery campus
All families in our teaching and student community are requested to take extra prevention and social distancing measures in preparation for student testing and the return to in-person school
17th January 2022: Classes resume in person at Discovery. All students who test negative will return to school in person (as usual)
13th, 14th, 15th January 2022: If any close family contact or household member tested positive or had Covid19 symptoms on these dates, please keep the connected Discovery children at home and test after 5 days after the initial positive result or onset of Covid19 symptoms. The students and all household members must test negative and show no symptoms in order to return to school.
All Discovery staff will be tested twice before they report to work from their break this January 2022
All guidelines will be updated immediately if and when there are new directives or guidelines from government authorities.
In the meantime, it is still imperative to continue the Discovery home and school partnership to minimise contagion and ensure that effective learning continues.
Covid19 Prevention for Term 2
As the COVID19 prevention battle continues, we request your partnership in the following prevention measures;
Please avoid gatherings and unnecessary visits during this period, wash hands frequently at home, and monitor your children and all other household members' health
The latest variant of covid19 is highly contagious and we, therefore, request vigilance at home and at school to prevent outbreaks that will be disruptive to both student progress and family routines
Please inform your child's class teacher as soon as any close contact or household member tests positive for covid19. Sharing this information early allows us to minimise contagion at school, it is very important that you communicate as soon as your child has been exposed to Covid19.
All of the preventative measures that were in place last year will be maintained as we proceed into Term 2 in 2022. These include daily temperature checks, mask-wearing, frequent handwashing, social distancing awareness, sanitising of hands, surfaces, and materials, and ventilating our rooms.
When we start face-to-face learning, please keep sick children at home, this helps them recover faster and prevents the spread of diseases and infections at school. Always bear in mind that when a child is sick, she/he is barely able and ready to engage in the demanding activities of the school day.
