The Early Years Section UPDATE
For our 2, 3 and 4 year-olds, the first half of this term has been dedicated to students settling into their classroom and routines, developing their personal social and emotional learning, and focusing on their language skills. Here are some highlights:
Developing Routines and Settling In
Students have been settling in and using routines to help them with their day-to-day activities. They have also been developing their social and emotional learning. Social-emotional learning is a top priority here at Discovery. We value it because it allows each student to be excited to come to school and learn. Through this learning approach, teachers integrate social and emotional skills into daily activities. Teachers have successfully integrated this practice with positive learning experiences focused on celebration and teamwork.
Language Learning
The little ones have loved their language learning activities so far. Our hands-on learning activities have helped them to develop a positive attitude towards being in class and trying their best!
Students use hands-on activities to learn about letter sounds, letter shapes, and tricks that will build their foundational skills in literacy
Additional Term 1 Priorities
Reading levels: Students will focus on phonics and literacy foundation skills to prepare them for reading in primary.
Oral Language: Students will continue to practice asking questions and sharing ideas.
Developing stamina: Students will continue to learn to independently to develop problem solving skills
Tracking progress: Teachers will be analyzing student performance data and organizing teaching and learning to prepare students to be successful
