Twin (or Multiples) Facts!

  • Whether they look completely different from each other or are exact replicas of one another, every child is completely different

    • Fun fact: About 25% of identical twins are "Mirror Image Twins"

  • Even with being raised in the same environment, no two babies will be exactly the same

  • Do not expect twins (or multiples) to develop at the same rate, again they're all different children and will go through milestones and develop at different rates

    • One day you might find one child taking their first steps while your other is still crawling. Don't panic, they'll get there at their own pace.

  • Also, there is the possibility that with pregnancies involving more than 1 child that a mother may give birth earlier than if it was a single pregnancy

    • This does not mean that your child will be unhealthy or that it may affect their development. This will, however, mean that they are born premature and as a result during those early months of life, they require more care and attention than usual to catch them up to their same-age peers.

  • Still expect them to reach milestones in the same age ranges as non-multiples
