Curriculum Implementation Division Launches “Books on Wheels”
Ligao City, Albay-The Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) successfully implemented the “Books on Wheels” initiative last November 27, 2025, a mobile literacy program aimed at bringing quality reading materials directly to learners and strengthening early literacy development in public elementary schools. The activity was proposed by EPS Maria Grecia Renolayan, whose initiative focused on improving access to reading resources and creating meaningful and engaging literacy experiences for learners through a mobile and school-based reading setup.
A highlight of the program was the storytelling session facilitated by PDO-II Geraldine R. Carillo, EPS Maria Grecia Renolayan and EPS Leopoldo Brizuela, Jr., who served as the storytellers. Their engaging and expressive storytelling captivated learners, fostering listening skills, imagination, and an increased appreciation for reading and stories.
The success of the activity was made possible through the full support of the Learning Resource Management Section (LRMS), which provided the learning materials and extended comprehensive technical and logistical assistance. The LRMS is headed by EPS Rommel Carl R. Peralta, with the support of Librarian II Grace G. Saret, ensuring the availability, quality, and effective utilization of the learning resources used during the activity.
The Books on Wheels initiative benefited learners and teachers from Ligao East Central School (LECS), Don Teotimo Elementary School, and Ligao West Central Elementary School–Poblacion (LWCES–Poblacion). Participants actively engaged in the reading and storytelling activities, reflecting the program’s positive impact on learner motivation and reading interest.
This initiative highlights the Curriculum Implementation Division’s continued commitment to promoting literacy through innovative, learner-centered, and resource-driven programs. Through strong collaboration with the Learning Resource Management Section, Books on Wheels supports the development of a culture of reading and equitable access to quality learning resources across schools.

Batang, Ligao City — To further strengthen the quality and accessibility of learning resources in public schools, the DepEd SDO Ligao City, through the Learning Resource Management Section, successfully conducted the 1st Division Market Scoping and Finalization of Priority Lists of Supplemental Learning Resources for School Libraries on July 31, 2025, in Batang, Ligao City.
The activity served as a strategic platform for assessing available supplemental learning materials aligned with the Revised K to 12 curriculum and the evolving needs of learners. The market scoping enabled school leaders and learning resource managers to interact directly with publishers, explore innovative instructional materials, and finalize a list of priority resources for acquisition and use in school libraries.
Several publishing companies responded to the call and presented their latest materials, showcasing a wide range of educational books and references geared toward improving literacy, creativity, and 21st-century learning skills. Their participation significantly enriched the selection process and gave evaluators a better understanding of the variety and quality of resources available in the market.
Education Program Supervisors, Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDSs), Learning Resource Evaluators, and school library focal persons also took part in the activity, contributing their expertise in assessing and recommending appropriate materials for school-based use.
In her message, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Nympha D. Guemo highlighted the role of learning resources in elevating classroom instruction. The finalized list of priority learning resources will serve as a strategic guide for the Division in acquiring books and other instructional materials for school libraries, ensuring that every learner in Ligao City has access to high-quality supplemental resources that enrich classroom instruction and support holistic learning.
Batang, Ligao City – With a strong commitment to enhancing Science and Mathematics instruction, the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Ligao City conducted the Division Staff Orientation-Workshop cum Development of Contextualized Learning Resources Utilizing Learning Tools & Equipment in Science and Mathematics (LTE-SME) last August 6, 2025 at St. Elmo’s Event Hall, Batang, Ligao City.
Meanwhile, Jocelyn Navera, Education Program Supervisor in Science and the proponent of the activity, highlighted that the laboratory worksheets promote inquiry-based learning. “Science becomes more meaningful when students are allowed to explore, investigate, and discover. These learning materials will help facilitate those hands-on experiences,” she shared.
The Learning Resource Management Section (LRMS) likewise expressed its full support for the endeavor, noting that it aligns with the division’s advocacy to maximize the use of available resources to improve teaching and learning, while ensuring the efficient use of public funds. Batang, Ligao City – The DepEd SDO Ligao City conducted a three-day Division Training Workshop last June 24–26, 2025, at St. Elmo Event Hall, focusing on contextualizing ALS learning resources and assessment tools.
This joint effort by the ALS and LRMS aimed to equip ALS teachers and field implementers with localized session guides and assessments aligned with the five ALS learning strands. Participants collaborated to produce learner-centered, community-based materials for out-of-school youth and adult learners.
SDS Nympha D. Guemo stressed the role of localized resources in bridging learners to lifelong skills and opportunities. EPS II Maribeth Villareal highlighted the power of effective assessment in shaping learner growth and potential.
The workshop outputs were set for validation and pilot testing in selected CLCs, reflect DepEd Ligao’s commitment to inclusive, quality education for all.
Legazpi City, Albay —The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Ligao City, through its Learning Resource Management Section (LRMS), together with DepEd Region V, proudly hosted the 2025 Bicol Book Festival held on May 1, 2025, at Pacific Mall, Legazpi City.
The festival served as a regional celebration of creativity, literacy, and collaboration among educators, writers, learners, and publishers across the Bicol Region. It showcased storybooks, interactive materials, reading remediations, and other supplementary learning resources aligned with the K to 12 Curriculum.
Aimed at strengthening the culture of reading and promoting the development of contextualized learning resources, the event provided a venue for exchanging best practices and innovations in learning resource development. It also highlighted the commitment of the Department of Education in championing inclusive and learner-centered education.
The successful conduct of the 2025 Bicol Book Festival reaffirms the role of the DepEd Region V and other Schools Division Offices as catalysts for accessible, relevant, and high-quality education in the region.
Ligao City, Albay — DepEd SDO Ligao City has commenced the construction of its first-ever Library and Innovation Hub, a major initiative funded by the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office through the Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF). This project aims to improve access to quality learning resources and promote a strong reading culture across public schools in the division.
The hub will serve as a centralized resource center for both elementary and secondary schools, offering a wide array of print and digital materials aligned with the K to 12 Curriculum. It will also support mobile library services, professional development activities, and community reading programs.
Once completed, the Library and Innovation Hub will feature reading spaces, cataloging areas, and ICT tools, ensuring inclusive and resilient learning, especially for schools in Ligao City.
IN PHOTOS: School Heads from 12 secondary public schools in Ligao City receive a total of 370 tablets intended for ADM and ALS learners, as part of the DepEd’s commitment to promoting inclusive and tech-enabled education. These devices will support flexible learning, especially in remote and underserved communities.
