Workshop on
Moments of L-functions
A Zoom link (with meeting ID/passcode), a Gather link, and a Jamboard link will be emailed to all workshop participants. Please do not post or share these private links.
UNBC offers self-service guest Wi-Fi on campus. Start by connecting to the wireless network “UNBC- Guest Sign-up”; enter your email address and name, then check your email for an access code. Then you can connect to the network “UNBCGuest” and enter the access code you received as the password. (Note that this method requires you to have brief access to your email before being on UNBC Wi-Fi. If you can’t access your email from a data connection, one of the organizers can find a connected computer for you to use to get your access code.)
Alternatively, you can connect to the eduroam wireless network using the same credentials you would at your home campus. To avoid login problems, make sure your eduroam login info is already configured at your own institution. If you’ve already logged in to eduroam prior to coming to UNBC, it should connect automatically for you.
This workshop has a persistent Zoom link which online participants can use for all of the workshop activities (other than those on Gather, to be described below). Please have Zoom display your preferred professional name; you are welcome to add your pronouns and/or your affiliation if you wish. Please have your microphones muted by default, and please use the “Raise hand” button if you would like to ask a question or otherwise speak. While we encourage you to have your video on so that we can all see one another, you can decide when to have your video on or off. You are welcome to use the Zoom chat to communicate with other online participants—just be aware that speakers probably won’t be monitoring the Zoom chat, and so spoken questions and comments will be better for them. (In-person participants will not need to use Zoom at all, although of course you are welcome to should you find it helpful.)
This workshop also has a persistent Gather (often called Gather Town) space that will be accessible at all times for the duration of the workshop. It is a space to allow and facilitate contact and conversation among all workshop participants, particularly online participants. You are welcome to create an account and avatar, and even visit the space itself, before the workshop begins—there is a slight learning curve that it’s nice to get out of the way (look at Gather’s official documentation and a “How to Use” video if you prefer learning that way).
Certain events (the ones in green on the workshop timetable) will be hosted exclusively on Gather. In-person participants should log on to Gather on their computers for these events. It will help if in-person participants use headphones or earbuds, and you are also encouraged to spread out throughout the venue (not just the main lecture room) in order to minimize background noise. For anyone who has Zoom open while using Gather, please mute your Zoom microphone while using Gather.
As with Zoom, we ask that you use your preferred professional name on Gather (together with your pronouns and/or affiliation if you wish). The Gather space will be available to workshop participants 24 hours a day during the workshop, and folks are welcome to drop in at any time. If you ever want to organize a discussion (mathematical or social or both) on Gather, we will be happy to email the workshop participants with the details.
We will use Jamboard during the EDI sessions on Thursday and Friday to allow participants to submit feedback and questions anonymously.
