Planning for the symposium

Transportation

Most people traveling to Vancouver will fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Taxis are plentiful—a taxi from the airport to the UBC campus costs a flat rate of $42—and public transit is also available and dependable. UBC's “Plan your Trip” website has a lot of information about getting to and around campus and other campus attractions.

For anyone driving to campus, UBC has lots of parking (the West Parkade is probably best for the symposium venue), most of which is available for visitors to pay and park unless otherwise marked.

Accommodations

Some symposium participants have had accommodations arranged in the Walter Gage Student Residence. If you have had accommodations booked by us, we will send you more information by email in May. Accommodations do not include meals, but there are many dining options on campus—see our symposium resources page for more information.

There are plenty of choices for those looking to make their own housing arrangements, from UBC Rooms and Suites and other UBC Accommodations to other options on campus and around Vancouver.

Code of Conduct

We are committed to offering an inclusive, collaborative and safe space for everyone involved in this symposium. We ask that all participants are committed to supporting equity, diversity and inclusion; we also ask that all participants have read the PIMS Code of Conduct and agree to follow it.

COVID and illness policies

We ask all in-person participants to do your part in trying to minimize the spread of infectious diseases at the symposium. Individuals may choose whether to wear masks at any time. If you have cold, flu, or COVID symptoms, please stay in your room and attend the symposium online instead of coming to the symposium lecture hall, and please let Greg Martin <gerg@math.ubc.ca> know about your symptoms. COVID tests will be available at the registration table and at the front desk of the Walter Gage Student Residence.
