CRG Launch Event

Banff International Research Station
Banff, AB, Canada
November 18–20, 2022

Event description

This 2-day BIRS event will launch the activities of the PIMS funded Collaborative Research Group (CRG) on L-functions in Analytic Number Theory. The field of analytic number theory focuses on arithmetic questions through the lens of L-functions. These generating series encode arithmetic information and are connected to a host of other mathematical fields, such as algebraic number theory, harmonic analysis, Diophantine approximation, probability, representation theory, and computational number theory. The CRG goals include tackling a variety of central problems in analytic number theory and elevating a new generation of experts that is more representative of our diverse society.

The launch event is pivotal for inaugurating a broad-scale and curated collaborative approach that brings together experts and rising stars with diverse competencies to carry through the CRG plans. The workshop consists of three introductory lectures about the CRG scientific objectives, a presentation about the CRG scientific activities, and an event highlighting the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in our activities, as well as several structured discussions among subsets of the participants on detailed planning of upcoming events. The discussions are aimed at determining areas of common interest, planning future visits and events, and launching cross-collaborations among the participating faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.

This event is part of the PIMS Collaborative Research Group L-functions in Analytic Number Theory.
