This year, you’ll dive into the fundamentals of how computers work, build your Python programming skills, explore networking concepts, and complete a programming project. These units are designed to give you the foundation and confidence you need to advance to G9 and beyond.
In G8, we’ll cover two exciting quarters, each with two key units:
Unit 1: Fundamentals of Computing
In this unit, you’ll explore the core principles of how computers work, including their hardware, how they process data, and how information is represented digitally. This unit will give you a strong understanding of the building blocks of modern computing. See more >>
Unit 2: Python Programming
This unit introduces Python programming, focusing on essential skills such as working with variables, loops, and procedures. You’ll also develop problem-solving skills and learn to write algorithms to create simple but powerful programs.
Unit 3: Networks
This unit focuses on how computers connect and communicate through networks. You’ll learn about the internet, network topologies, and how data is transmitted and kept secure. These concepts will help you understand the systems that power our connected world.
Unit 4: Programming Project
In this final unit, you’ll bring together everything you’ve learned in a hands-on programming project. You’ll design, write, and debug a program that solves a real-world problem, applying your Python skills and creativity.
To track your progress and help you succeed, we’ll use the following assessments:
Terminology Tests (TT)
At the start of each unit, you’ll complete a test to check your understanding of key terms and vocabulary.
Weekly Mini Progress Tests (MINI)
Short weekly tests will measure how well you understand what we’ve covered in lessons.
Workbook Tasks (WBK)
Each unit will include workbook activities that let you apply your knowledge and improve your understanding.
End-of-Unit Assessments (EOU)
At the end of each unit, you’ll complete a test or project that brings together everything you’ve learned in the unit.
By the end of G8, you’ll have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of computing, programming, and networking, and you’ll have completed a project to showcase your skills. Let me know if you’d like any further edits!
