Just outside the miners’ store, they have marked off a path that leads to the shoreline, where the presence of carts full of blocks of ice being carried to the village makes it clear that they are currently on a mining expedition, and if guests want to join in on this job, all they have do is enter the marked off queue for DEEP FREEZE.
After passing through the entrance guests will notice an increase in the activity of the miners, as several carts carrying even more ice as well as minerals litter the scene, with some full of equipment being taken to the upcoming ride. On top of this, several animatronic scenes depict the many workers, with seemingly almost all of them gathered around this area, as some are pulling the aforementioned carts, while others are discussing the upcoming expedition. As guests proceed they’ll find even more miners, with some looking to take a crack at the mainland, while several others are heading the same way guests are.
In the scenario that guests haven’t already realized the destination of their trip, they certainly will when they come face to face with a gigantic iceberg, the frozen formation that the mining company is looking to take from, with the only thing separating guests from the natural structure being a small tent that they will board from. Just outside the tent is a height chart, though even if it’s safe, if a guest is a younger teenager a cast member posing as one of the miners will make it clear that this expedition is rougher than most, and that only children who truly yearn for the mines should board. Once inside the tent, guests will be given the safety spiel from a video depicting the CEO of the Northward Mining Company, before being boarded onto a “Mine Train” and starting the ride proper.
Once the coaster properly starts, guests get one last glimpse of the shore before entering a tunnel in the iceberg. The outside light is still peeking into the iceberg, and the color of the ice is white and clearly distinguishable, with the coaster then slowly lowering into the formation. Well the lights are fading and the ride is getting bumpier, the mining operation seems to be going quite successfully, until you can start hearing cracking, as a view of the surface opens up, where a lone polar bear stands before guests that’s slamming its paws into the ice as it tries to look in. The creature’s curiosity leads to an unfortunate turn of events for riders, as the fragile ice below them fully breaks, plunging them into the depths of the ice formation. This is the coaster’s big launch point, as it takes a steep dive downwards, with guests being surrounded by blue ice all around them as they’re subjected to many twists and turns.
After going through that tumultuous slide down the ice cave, everything goes dark, before things start to settle down as the interior of a sunken cavern becomes visible, and the sound of the ocean water that surrounds it dripping down can be heard. Before long, the sound of something swimming nearby becomes audible, when suddenly a tentacle bursts out of the rocky walls, causing water to spill out and the coaster to take a sharp turn to avoid it, before more and more tentacles burst out, flinging the train around before we get a view of the beast attacking us, which is revealed to be none other than the mythical Kraken! The creature starts chasing guests as light and sound work give the impression that compressed water is gushing out behind them, with it seeming to help the squid in its pursuit, as they are flung back and forth through a route back up the perilous iceberg, before finally reaching the surface where the beast can’t follow.
As riders find themselves on the surface of the formation once again, their fellow miners rescue them and bring the train back to the tent, before one of them exclaims that such an expedition must never occur again, but as long the park allows guests to revisit this moment in time, they’ll always be able to face the dangers of the ice and snow hidden within DEEP FREEZE.
