Throughout humanity’s history, we have ventured to many frontiers, and while some have searched to the south, and towards hotter lands for what they seek, others have trekked northwards for their rewards, whether that be the profits from mining expeditions, or the scientific discoveries the North Pole hides. Guests can immerse themselves in one such camp that has been set up near the end of the 19th century, where the nights are shrouded in deep darkness, and the winters are cold and stormy, welcome to…
North Star Outpost
From Timeland, a towering snowcapped mountain range blocks off guests’ view of whatever may lie beyond it, however in the same direction as these mountains there's a wide open entrance to a mineshaft leading into these mountains which differs in appearance from the steampunk architecture of the rest of the area just enough to draw the eyes of guests towards it. Above this entrance there's a sign labeled “North Star Outpost: Research Facility and Mining Operation”. If guests choose to explore deeper into this tunnel, they will be transported into a wholly different world.
When guests enter into the entirely indoors area, they’ll immediately be greeted by a cool breeze, and perhaps even a dusting of snow, as they realize they’re standing upon an unknown shore somewhere in the Arctic that is currently feeling the effects of wintertime (though not too harshly, of course), which is also evidenced by the sight of the Aurora Borealis at night. Despite nature’s presence immediately making itself clear, humanity is clearly not far away as a small encampment of people has been set up nearby. As guests walk into town they will figure out that this little community is home to scientists on a mission named The Stargazing Expedition,
as well as a group of miners working for the Northward Mining Company,
both searching for different rewards from the land, who have journeyed together on this expedition, and who have, despite their differing goals, managed to form a surprisingly cozy community. Indeed guests will find that the camp is almost more of a town, as performers taking the roles of members of both groups can be found out and about, ready to regale guests of their exploits if approached. From the mainland guests can spot a towering iceberg that’s host to the thrill coaster DEEP FREEZE, a research facility which hosts the animatronic walkthrough Earth’s Undiscovered Frontier: A Deep Sea Museum, and a mysterious cavern that’s host to the dark ride/water flume Brother Bear: Salmon Run. The friendly atmosphere is made complete with options for dining and shopping.
By the port, there’s a fishing shack with an open wall In the back that connects to a dock where there’s an environmental gag of a fisherman pulling up fish trapped inside geometrically perfect ice cubes on loop. As the theme might imply, this is a facade for a seafood restaurant, known as Seaside Delights, where guests can enjoy cod, salmon, lobster and more cooked in all different styles. Don’t forget to grab a Baked Alaska for dessert!
Nearby, a cozy cabin is host to a cafe that serves all sorts of beverages like coffee, tea, and hot chocolate named Boiling Point.
The Northward Mining Company has a company store where guests can buy crystal themed rock candy and general merch themed around the land.
Other environmental touches include trash cans branded with the logos of the two groups present at the outpost, bathrooms themed around an icy cavern interior, and a streetmosphere game where guests can pick at a fake ice block, with whoever hits it the most winning a sticker displaying the Northward Mining Company’s logo.
