Baghdad, 10th Century
Founded as "Madīnat as-Salam" (the City of Peace) in 762 CE, Baghdad is the colossal capital and beating heart of the cosmopolitan Abbasid Caliphate.
We have traveled to the height of the Islamic Golden Age, an academic and cultural blossoming thanks to the House of Wisdom, one of the world's earliest universities.
An Engaged Streetlife
10th-Century Baghdad is a bustling hub for commerce and culture along the Silk Road. The Caliphate of this period is religously tolerant and encourages new trades and ideas.
On the ground is an array of bazars and alleyways. The city is a maze. Inspired with a depth of knowledge present in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, cast members are taught elements of real history or tall-tales, and presented as merchants and traders stopping at Baghdad along the road.
Yet, walking through Baghdad does not feel like your stereotypical "medieval city". "Skyscrapers" loom overhead, built from mud-brick. Near the far edge of the land is the Golden Palace and House of Wisdom; the center of the Abassid rule. Combining these elements, most of the city is a maze of markets and paths, but one can navigate through the taller adminstrative buildings.

New City / Den o' Thieves
To the left of Baghdad Bazar lies the urban outskirts, or “New City” of medieval Baghdad. It also has another name - the “Den o’ Thieves”, as its home to the Bandit’s secret lair and Crossroad Trading Co. Depot. All-too-comfortable with the shadier sides of streets, Aladdin has set-up shop here with A Whole New World and Magic Carpets.
Baghdad Bazar
The central thoroughfare of Crossroads City is the Baghdad Bazar, a bustling marketplace featuring a variety of local retail & food carts. In-character cast members entertain guests with a tall-tales both real and farcical, and if you’re lucky, you may even catch a street show – or a bandit attack!
Old City / Learning District
To the right of the Baghdad Bazar from the time-travel portal is the “Old City”, or Learning District of the Abassids. Founded in the 700s with the caliphate, the Old City contains both the Golden Palace – home to an insightful walkthrough - as well as the famous House of Wisdom, home to Algebra Road.
