EPOCHS: A Symphony Through Time is Disney’s most advanced nighttime spectacular, utilizing a breadth of technological outlets to take our guests on a dazzling jounrey in time. At the heart of Clockwork Kingdom, with the help of projection mapping, music, fireworks, drones, lasers, and mechanical effects, this nighttime phenomenon will develop the story of humanity through time, and guests will be immersed in the beauty of the past and the promises of tomorrow. This is EPOCHS: A Symphony Through Time.
THE PROLOGUE
At the heart of Clockwork Kingdom, the lights of [Steampunk Clockwork City] dim, and the sound of a mysterious ticking emerges from the center outwards. It is here that the gears on our clocktower hub come alive, and our orchestra kicks off in a grand fashion.
In the air, a spinning gear with a face in the center (made with the help of drones), is where we are met with our storyteller and narrator of this show, the familiarly named Timekeeper. Introducing himself, he explains the importance of recognizing and appreciating our past as global community as well as the hopes and dreams of a community of tomorrow. Our journey takes us around the eras of this fifth gate in a way that can only be experienced in this nighttime spectacular. The Timekeeper then invites guests on a journey around the world and around time.
ACT I - A TIME OF LEGENDS
The first presentation of our spectacle through time takes us to Lianyun Valley, where our narrator describes it as “a time of legends, a birth of storytelling and the mystical.” From the northeast pathway of the park emerges a parade float of the Jade Dragon. This parade float features LED lights of green and gold and projection mapping to pave the way for a magical experience of the dragon coiling upwards towards the sky, illuminating the area around the float to highlight the legend’s living presence about the land. Silk banners surround the base with ancient calligraphy lining the float allowing a timeless experience throughout the nighttime celebration.
Here our symphony takes on an arrangement of arpeggios through guitars and flutes to mimic an age of storytelling where the world was young, open to the legends living among our human race. On our clocktower, an ancient temple comes to life, showcasing the various legends that have been passed down from generation to generation; projection mapping pheonixes, tigers, and more specifically the Jade Dragon, the Monkey King dancing through droned clouds, coming together for The Timekeeper to showcase an age of mythological legends, an era that would flourish in years to come.
ACT II - A TIME OF WISDOM
Our second presentation finds us with emphasis on technological marvel and adventurous spirit, taking focus on language, lanterning, and glasswork. Our parade float here takes extra focus on how language has shaped our understanding of history and the philosophers of the Middle East's Golden Age. Drones in this scene emphasize manuscripts for the ages, and mathematical diagrams that come to life on our resident clocktower emphasize the brains that are developed during this period. Gears shift, pistons hiss in our spectacular of development, taking notice of humankind's wisdom during this time.
Our show's rhythm here finds itself in a period of transition, from an experience of wonder and mysticality to a moment of wisdom and transformation in mind and body. A movement of focus from legends and storytelling to truth and curiousity in drones outlining astrolabes and books to emphasize our movement to truth and explanation of our human race.
