Workflow for a CAS Experience

Check out the workflow below based on the 5 CAS Stages to help you with your CAS Experience

Investigation

Check out the CAS Planning Sheet you filled out at the beginning of Grade 11.

Conduct some research about the experience. This could take the form of mind maps/brainstorms/reflections. Hold on to these notes and documents to upload to Managebac later.

Think about your goals for this experience.

  • Can it count as a CAS experience? (Check out this page to learn more)

  • Which strand will it meet?

  • Which learning outcomes will it achieve?

  • Is it verifiable through proposals, reflections, evidence, and supervisor’s reports?

  • Will the experience be enjoyable?

  • Does the experience allow for development of my personal interest, skills,and/or talents?

  • What new possibilities or challenges could the experience provide?

  • What might be the possible consequences of this CAS experience for myself, others, and the environment? (In other words, think about the Ethics of your actions. Click on the Ethics Page to learn more.)

Investigation

Talk to your advisor or the CAS coordinator about your planned experience, especially if you are unsure what strands/learning outcomes it might meet.

Talk to a potential supervisor about your planned experience and ask them if they would be willing to supervise.

Consider which Learning Outcomes might be met; focus on only one or two LO’s for greatest efficiency.

Preparation

Once you've talked to your supervisor, add the experience on Managebac, filling out all the necessary information about goals, etc. You can also fill out the CAS Supervisor Consent Form at the same time. Make sure you watch the tutorial on adding a new CAS experience so that you know what you need to add!

No experience can be approved without the supervisor's consent. The form indicates that the supervisor is aware of the student’s CAS programme.

You will receive email notifications at every stage of the approval process.

Action

Once the supervisor has approved your Supervisor Consent form, and the CAS Coordinator has approved your experience both on the Consent form and on Managebac, you are ready to take action.

Begin your experience!

The rule of thumb is to engage with it at least once a week (remember that consistency is important).

Problem-solve and adjust as you go.

Action

Reflection

Demonstration

Continue taking action with your experience.

Reflect on your experience at least once a month and provide evidence such as forms, emails, pictures, things created, etc. Check out the page on Reflections and Evidence to know more.

Demonstrate how you are meeting the Learning Outcomes

Students should meet with their supervisors at least each quarter for each experience. They should record and reflect on their meeting.

The supervisors will leave a comment on the portfolio with any feedback.

Demonstration

Once you have finished your activity:

    • make sure that you complete all the evidence and reflections, including the summative reflection. Check out the Reflection Guide to see what you need to include.

    • make sure that you have explained how all the learning outcomes have been met.

Submit the experience for supervisor review on Managebac to request approval from your supervisor. (Click here for a quick tutorial on How to finish a CAS Experience and Request a Supervisor Review on Managebac).

Your supervisor is responsible for saying whether or not you have completed an experience successfully. If the supervisor believes you need further improvement, you must meet with them to negotiate what steps need to be taken.
