For Parents
How can I support my children through their CAS experiences?
Ideas for how you can support your daughter's CAS experiences:
Maintain the attitude that CAS is about helping growth through life experiences. It is more than just a school requirement.
Ask your children about their experiences; this will initiate interesting conversations and validate their efforts.Â
Ask them about their upcoming CAS deadlines and how they are doing with their reflections. This may help them keep organized and on track.
Consider joining your children in their activities; this could mean going for a jog in the park together or volunteering at an animal shelter together. It may even become an opportunity for family bonding.
Support their interests by providing opportunities for activities outside of school. This could mean enrolling them in ballet classes, driving them to sports practices, or allowing them to go buy some art supplies.
What not to do:
Please do not complete any part of your children's CAS activities for them. The program is about them taking initiative and pursuing their own interests in pursuit of greater independence. Forcing your children to do their CAS work, or doing it for them, undermines the potential benefits of the program and may even breach our Seisen Academic Integrity Policy.
Please do not feel obligated to spend huge amounts of money solely for the purpose of helping your children pass CAS. There are many ways that CAS can be a rewarding experience without being expensive.
Please do not pressure your children to choose one particular activity or another. It must be her choice in order for it to be an effective learning opportunity.
If you know of or come across any potential service activities or other CAS opportunities that you would like to share, please feel free to email the CAS Coordinator (Xiaodan Wilk) at xwang@seisen.com.
