EDT 8140 - LMS and Evaluation
This evaluation is to compare the following functions of 2 learning management systems, Canvas and Desire2Learn (D2L). The evaluations are accompanied by walk-throughs of the specific function.
1. Change "Gradebook" Settings. Create Electronic Gradebook Categories & Items (Integrated with Dropbox, Quiz, and Rubric)
2. Create Dropbox Assignments, Turnitin.com, and Grading Rubric
3. Create Quiz Questions in Question Library
4. Create Electronic Grades for Quizzes, Create Quiz, Modify Quiz Settings, and Add Randomizing Question Set to Quiz
5. Conduct Quality Check (Demo Student Drop Off Assignment and Instructor Grade Assignments)
After evaluating the above functions for each LMS, I will make a professional recommendation on the better LMS of the two.
Change Gradebook Settings:
Pros: Easy to navigate to and work
Cons: Limited number of settings
Create Electronic Gradebook Categories & Items:
Pros: Intuitive and in one place, auto-updates gradebook

Pros: Quick process with all operations integrated intuitively

Pro: Simple to create
Cons: Question bank not easy to get to, and unable to return directly to quiz that was being edited

Cons: Not to clear as to where to go for some settings due to large amount and odd naming.

Cons: Items not auto-generated when assignments are made

All functions were grouped together better than in D2L
