During stage 1 of understanding by Design instructional designer identifies the desired results of the curriculum (Wiggins & McTighe, 2011).
Start by identifying key information about the course. The instructional designer will need to create a unit summary that keeps the language simple so all students will fully understand the course.
After key course information is identified, the instructional designer should identify standards and competencies from organizations that occupy the same discipline, industry, field of study etc. Once these standards and competencies are identified, desired results can be created that measure up to industry standard.
The instructional designer should have at least one desired result in each of the following areas:
