The Basic Specialist Training (BST) in Ophthalmology Programme is a structured three-year postgraduate training programme in Brunei Darussalam.
The programme aims to develop competent general ophthalmic practitioners through supervised clinical training, structured teaching, workplace-based assessment, progressive procedural and surgical experience, and professional development.

Preparation for FRCOphth examinations
Preparation for future Advanced Specialist Training, fellowship training or recognised overseas specialist training pathways
R1 – Foundations of Ophthalmology
R2 – Core General Ophthalmology
R3 – Advanced General Ophthalmology & Transition Year
The curriculum is adapted from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists OST Curriculum 2024 and contextualised to Brunei Darussalam’s healthcare system, service structure and clinical exposure.
