The trainee should demonstrate capability to function at senior medical officer/general ophthalmology level under consultant oversight.
Minimum expectations include:
Satisfactory Educational Supervisor report
Satisfactory annual review outcome
Completion of BST procedural logbook requirements
Safe and independent management of common ophthalmic conditions
Completion of at least one audit or quality improvement project
Participation in teaching activities
Participation in departmental leadership and service activities
Recommended assessments:
CBD: minimum 10
DOPS: minimum 10
MSF: 1 annually
Cataract surgical competency should be assessed using the Ophthalmology Surgical Competency Assessment Rubric (OSCAR) for Phacoemulsification.
Trainees are expected to complete a minimum of two OSCAR assessments during each training year:
one during the first six months
one during the second six months
Completion of FRCOphth Part 1 + Refraction Certificate and/or MMed Ophthalmology is strongly recommended prior to programme completion.
