Best Places to Study on Campus

If you are ever doing Mass Academy homework, then you are on the right page! In this piece, we’re going to be discussing some of the best spots to study around Mass Academy and WPI.
When you need to study with a group:
Unity Hall, located right across from Starbucks and next to Gordon Library, is a great place to study in groups (and have good conversations with random people on the elevator). The tech suites are perfect for group study sessions as they feature TV’s for presenting and translucent whiteboards.
Whether you are working through physics free body diagrams or practicing your STEM project presentation, these tech suites are the perfect places for collaboration. The varying sizes of the tech suites allow them to be able to accommodate groups of any size.. While some include long meeting tables, others include smaller tables for groups of 3 or 4.
However, it can be pretty difficult to find a tech suite, even after hauling up 5 flights of stairs and intensely scanning every floor. We recommend that you plan a group study in advance and reserve a tech suite or a meeting room on the WPI website.
For a last-minute study session, there are a few cubbies on each floor that also include TVs for airplay and HDMI connection. If you still can’t find a place to study there are plenty of open benches and small side tables.
When you are too tired to walk all the way to WPI’s main campus:
Fuel is a cute cafe right across from MAMS that always has open tables to study.
Fuel is preferable for studying groups of 6 or less as they have nice wooden tables for groups of this size. Especially if you are able to get the wooden table in the center of Fuel, it’s a great spot to study. Also they often have $1 pastries or croissants after 4:00, so it's a good place to get a quick snack to fuel yourself while doing your Physics homework.
When you need to study alone:
Gordon C. Library, located in the heart of WPI Quad, is perfect for solo studying. Although it can be hard to find areas for larger groups of people to work in, the library is generally pretty quiet and has plenty of solo booths for when you want to be focused and do your work alone.
When you need affordable food when you’re studying:
Campus Center, also in the WPI Quad, is ideal for snacking-while-studying. The lower floor is home to one of the student cafeterias, which offers everything from small snacks like chips to full meals like their delicious subs.
Fun fact! You can load money into your WPI account and pay for food at any campus affiliated area (like the cafeterias) with your ID. If you use your ID, you also get a 10% discount at any of the previously mentioned WPI affiliated areas! In addition to the lower floor cafeteria, there’s a Dunkin’ Donuts on the upper floor where you can order both in person or online. Throughout Campus Center there is a plethora of study spaces with many seats. There’s also the Campus store where you can pick up MAMS or WPI merch!
When you are on a time-crunch for a spot to study:
The Starbucks (across from Unity) is always a welcome space, as it regularly has ample room for studying. Additionally, Starbucks has music bingos on Wednesdays which is always a fun activity to spice up your week (but it's not great when you want some peace and quiet). Grabbing a quick bite to eat is also an option at Starbucks as the food here is very reasonably priced.
If you are in the mood for a heavier meal, there’s also the Goat’s Head– a cafeteria with Asian fusion food behind Starbucks that opens at 5:00pm. This makes Starbucks the perfect spot when you want both a snack and dinner. It also gets pretty festive around the holidays and has a great environment to help brighten your mood.
As you can see, WPI is filled with plenty of study spots that fit any occasion. While school can be busy sometimes, we hope that some of our study spot tips will help you find a better environment for studying!
