Worcester Regional Science and Engineering Fair

The Worcester Regional Science and Engineering Fair (WRSEF) brought together 112 student participants and 90 projects from 17 different schools– one of which was Mass Academy. The top scorers from the Mass Academy February Fair were selected to move onto WRSEF where they competed for a chance to go to the Massachusetts State Fair (MSEF) and the International Fair (ISEF).

Months of research and practice had led to the fair, and students from all schools were excited to present their work to the judges. 

“It was a great experience because it was my first time doing the science fair,” said Mass Academy junior Rianna Santra. 

The fair also gave students an opportunity to talk to people from different schools and learn about other projects. Worcester Polytechnic Institute funded lunch, allowing students to continue socializing and getting to know other attendees. 

“It was so nice to [see] the work of other students from all over Worcester county and get the opportunity to see the work that we’ve been working on for the past 6 months come together and be able to share it with a wider audience,” said junior Krisha Patel. “It was definitely a long day but so worth it because seeing how others could connect to the work you were conducting and find their own meaning in it was so rewarding.”

After the judging period, the fair was open to the public. Many Mass Academy students and teachers stopped by to support the students who presented. 

“I loved getting to see everyone’s projects and I thought everyone did an amazing job,” said senior Saaya Daga. 

Mass Academy juniors Nevin Thinagar and Anshika Shekhar both were awarded first place at WRSEF and will be presenting their research at ISEF later this year. Junior Rianna Santra won the second place award while junior Joseph Yu placed third. Additionally, juniors Amy Chen, Krisha Patel, Alex Chen, Nihitha Reddy, and Anne Tie were all given honorable mentions.
