THE SWITCH-Excerpt - written by Gordon Blitz
Tagline: Evan, a married man, is having an affair with Mira, a single woman. But when Evan reveals the affair to Caroll, violence erupts, and this violence will make the relationship between Evan and Caroll dissolve.
Bedroom - NIGHT.
We hear the sound of two people reaching orgasm. As the lights come up, a man and woman are sitting up in bed; Evan (40; tall and lanky, passive; bare chest) and Mira (40; short, aggressive; wearing a tee-shirt).
MIRA
Did you tell Caroll?
EVAN
Not yet. Give me a little slack. You know it's not just us. There are kids involved.
MIRA
I know that. But the longer you wait, the more difficult it's going to be.
EVAN
I need to find the perfect time. It's a major change.
MIRA
That's bullshit!
EVAN
It's easier for you. You're not married.
Mira laughs.
EVAN (CONT’D)
Look, I promised you that we would take a vacation together. I've made all the arrangements. The kids are going to stay with my parents. It will be perfect.
MIRA
What about Caroll?
EVAN
Caroll has some kind of police reboot convention.
MIRA
You are such a good salesman. I wonder if I should believe you. You said that this was the first time you cheated.
EVAN
Why would I lie about that?
MIRA
I don't know. Maybe, so you won't feel so guilty, or you want me to feel like I'm special. Plus, there's that elephant in the room.
EVAN
We're not talking about that.
MIRA
I get it, and I suppose that's part of the reason you're not confessing.
Evan starts laughing. Mira stares at him confused.
EVAN
I just realized the term "could be had" is kinda’ reversed for me.
MIRA
Nah! I don't think that term applies to us.
Evan looks at the time.
EVAN
Oh, shit. I've got to go. It's so late.
MIRA
So go. I have to be up early for my morning yoga class.
EVAN
You have a dream job. Teaching yoga and being a trainer.
MIRA
There's some stress.
EVAN
Like what? Do your clients ever complain about mobility, flexibility or balance?
MIRA
No, because I'm the best teacher they've ever had.
As Evan gets out of bed, Mira tugs at his arm.
EVAN
I can't stay.
Evan gets out of bed; he is naked and grabs his clothes as he exits. Mira begins doing yoga poses
MIRA (V.O)
Why do I get myself into these situations? And don't tell me I’m purposely getting involved with married men; that I'm avoiding commitment so it feels safe. And I don't want to fix him. I'm not a rescuer or an emotional confidante.
