THE BULLY

The Bully Excerpt-written by Gordon Blitz

Tagline: Calvin bullied Quentin in high school, and now they are reuniting because Calvin wants to make amends.

INT. COFFEE SHOP-AFTERNOON

Two men; QUENTIN (30 years old; feminine, wearing make-up, slightly overweight) and CALVIN (30 years old; a big muscular man with bangs that he keeps sweeping away from his eyes) are sitting at a table.

   CALVIN

I was surprised that you were so willing to meet with me after the way I treated you in high school. I don't expect you to forgive me but . . .

QUENTIN

You said this was about making amends. I was curious as to what you were going to say.

CALVIN

Just so you understand, you weren't the first guy I hurt. My therapist says it's a form of homosexual panic. That something happened to me when I was younger that made me think I was gay, and so I would be lashing out.

QUENTIN

So, what are you saying?

CALVIN

It was never about me thinking I was gay, or even that you were trying to convert me. I just hated fags.

Quentin starts to get up, but Calvin puts his hand on Quentin’s shoulder.

  CALVIN

Don't leave. I'm just trying to be honest with you. And I don't hate you. I just hate what you do in bed. I can't help it.

QUENTIN

You're making me uncomfortable. I better go.

CALVIN

No. Let me finish. I want to say I'm sorry. I never should have punched you in the stomach or called you names or spit on you when we were in high school.

QUENTIN

Calvin, I don't know what you expect from me. If you want me to forgive you, I guess I can.

CALVIN

That's the thing. I want to believe that you do forgive me. If you can explain why you're gay, that might help me. You don't have to be queer, do you?

QUENTIN

It's not a choice. It's the way I am.

CALVIN

I don't believe that! Why would any man want to sleep with another guy? It's disgusting! And the way you dress. You're asking for trouble.

QUENTIN

I'm going to leave.

Quentin stands up, but Calvin grabs Quentin’s arm.

CALVIN

Sit the fuck down!

QUENTIN

Please let me go.

Quentin sits back down.
