THE SPACE BETWEEN US! Excerpt - written by Gordon Blitz

Tagline: Gwen has returned from prison after five years. While she was in jail, she formed a   relationship with another woman. When Gwen’s husband discovers her indiscretion, they both try to process the consequences.

INT: NIGHT - MODEST HOUSE-LIVING ROOM.

WALLACE (40 years old; tall, muscular, a physical education teacher; Gwen’s husband) and GWEN (40 years old, appears a bit careworn and older; Wallace’s wife) are sitting on a couch.

WALLACE

You never gave me a chance. I've heard enough about Samantha. I cringe when I   hear her name.

GWEN

But she did protect me. All those years I was in prison. I didn't have to worry about getting attacked sexually or physically from the other convicts or even the security guards.

WALLACE

So, where does that leave us? Is the marriage over? Are you going to leave me for Samantha?

GWEN

I don't know.

Wallace stands up.

WALLACE

I can't wrap my head around this. You talk about this being a reset, but that didn't happen. And the sex?

   GWEN

I tried. I had gotten so used to Samantha's touch in pri-son. I thought if I gave myself time, things would go back to the way they were.

Gwen stands up and tries to hug Wallace. He bristles at her touch. They remain standing up facing one another.

WALLACE

But it didn't. I had no idea you had grown tired of sex between us.

GWEN

We never talked about sex. If I ever broached the subject, you would clam up.

WALLACE

Because I didn't think it was romantic or sexy. And you always were having an orgasm. I could tell you weren't faking it.
