Domain One: Mindsets

Let's take a deeper look at what we mean by mindsets. It is important for stakeholders to get into the right headspace when diving into something new; especially something that can bring around a lot of change. Having a growth mindset is always helpful in these situations. By growth mindset we mean the belief that "with practice, perseverance, and effort, people have limitless potential to learn and grow" (Brock & Hundley, 2016, p 1).

For more information on why it is essential for educators to embrace a growth mindset, read this enlightening article Teaching with a Growth Mindset published by Millersville University.

The BLTCF Mindset domain encompasses the core values and beliefs that guide an individual’s thinking, behaviors, and actions, and that align with the goals of educational change and mission.

For blended learning, educators must understand, adopt, and commit to improvement mindsets that will allow them to make moves towards new forms of teachers and learning.

Stakeholders must understand the core values or beliefs that guide thinking, behaviors, and actions that align with the goals of educational change and mission. Stakeholders must also adhere to the mindset that these core values must be fully understood, adopted, and committed to.

There are two core competencies with sub-standards within the Mindsets domain.

Teachers can work towards mastering these competencies by:

  • shifting to learning models that emphasize and cultivate student choice, student discovery, student learning by doing, and student-initiated use of technology

  • emphasizing collaboration and modeling growth-orientation

  • embracing student needs for reflection and self-pacing

  • initiating change by accepting the interconnectedness of technology and pedagogy
