Government stumps up long-awaited help for struggling pig sector

Following mounting industry pressure for Government intervention, a new support package has been announced to support pig producers through the market turmoil caused by the labour crisis.

Announced on Thursday October 15, the measures included a private storage aid scheme which will enable meat processors to store slaughtered pigs for three to six months and process them at a later date and up to 800 new temporary pork butcher visas for a period of six-months from the existing allocation in the Seasonal Workers Pilot Scheme
